Privacy Policy
This policy covers Volition for Mac, Volition for iPhone and this website. Volition is operated by Artifactory, Inc.
#The short version
- On a Mac, your work stays on your Mac. Your conversations, prompts, files, what your agents remember and what they make are stored on your Mac, not with us. We can't read them.
- When an agent works, it uses accounts that are yours. It sends what a task needs to the AI provider you signed in to, such as Claude or ChatGPT, and to the services you ask it to use.
- Usage sharing is on by default. We receive content-free counts only, such as which days you used Volition, under a random ID that is not linked to your account. You can turn it off in Settings → Privacy. An existing choice to turn it off is always kept.
- On iPhone, your chats are stored with us. Volition for iPhone keeps your conversations, plans and preferences on our servers so you can come back to them. To answer you, your messages go to OpenRouter and Anthropic. You can delete any of it, or your whole account, in the app.
- Volition for iPhone is for adults. You need to be 18 or older to use it.
- On a Mac, a Volition account is optional. If you make one, we keep your name and email address.
- We never sell your data, show you ads, or train AI on your data.
#Volition for Mac: what stays on your Mac
- Your conversations with your agents, and the files and photos you share with them.
- What your agents remember, their notes, lists and schedules, and what they make for you.
- Your sign-ins to your AI providers and to the services you connect.
- Messages and WhatsApp conversations, if you connect them. Volition reads them on your Mac.
We have no server that holds this and no way to reach into your Mac. We can't read it, recover it, or hand it to anyone.
#Volition for Mac: what leaves it, and where it goes
An app that does things has to talk to the world. Here is every place information goes, and why.
| Your AI provider | To answer you and do a task, an agent sends the relevant part of the conversation, and the files it's working with, to the AI provider you signed in to: Anthropic for Claude, OpenAI for ChatGPT and Codex, or another provider you add. That happens under your account, and that provider's terms and privacy settings apply. We recommend checking its data controls, such as whether your conversations may be used for training. |
|---|---|
| Services you ask it to use | When you ask an agent to search the web, visit a site, or use a service or app you connected, that service receives what the request needs, just as if you'd done it yourself. If you connect WhatsApp, your WhatsApp messages travel through WhatsApp under its terms. |
| Your Volition account, if you make one | Your name and email address go to our account service at auth.volition.im, hosted by Supabase, which emails you a sign-in code. Before setup shows the account step, the app asks that service whether accounts are open; that request carries nothing about you. If you invite someone to a team, their email address and the invitation go to Resend, which sends the email for us. You can delete your account in Settings. |
| Teams, if you join one | Your team membership and your devices' public keys go to our team directory on Supabase. Team traffic, including work sessions you share, is forwarded between members' Macs by our team relay, hosted on Cloudflare. Teammates can see what you share with the team. |
| Usage counts, on by default | Content-free daily counts go to Supabase under a random ID with no link to your Volition account. Turn sharing off in Settings → Privacy; an existing off choice is kept. See Usage sharing below. |
| Feedback, if you send it | See Feedback below. |
| Updates | While it's open, the app checks for a signed update every 15 minutes at GitHub, where we publish our releases, and downloads it from there. The check carries the app's version and nothing about you. |
| Tools your agents need | Setup and updates download the official tools agents run on: from Anthropic, OpenAI and GitHub, Node.js from nodejs.org, and FFmpeg from ffmpeg.martin-riedl.de. These downloads carry nothing about you. |
| Agent pictures | For an agent in our catalog, the app may download its picture from the image address listed there. For other agents, it may send the agent's name to Apple's App Store search (itunes.apple.com) and visit the agent's website, if it has one, to find a picture. Those requests go to Apple and the website. Candidate pictures may also go to your AI provider, under your account, to help choose one. |
Like any internet request, each of these carries your Mac's IP address, which the service receiving it can see.
#Volition for iPhone
Volition for iPhone is a chat and planning app. It works differently from the Mac app: there is no Mac and no agent, so your conversations live on our servers rather than on a device you control. Here is what that means.
What we store
| Your account | Your email address, which you sign in with using an emailed six-digit code. |
|---|---|
| Your conversations | Your messages and Volition's answers, with their titles and dates. |
| Your plans | Plans made from a conversation, their steps and which steps you've checked off. |
| "How I like help" | The preferences you write there. They are added to every new answer. |
| Your consent | That you allowed AI processing and confirmed you're 18 or older, when, and the list of recipients you were shown. |
| Reports | If you report an answer: its category, your comment and a copy of that one answer, never the rest of the conversation. |
| Usage limits | For each message: when it was sent, what it cost us and whether it was answered. No content. This is how we enforce the daily free messages and spending limits. |
All of this is stored with Supabase, our database provider, in the United States. The app also keeps a copy of your recent conversations and plans on your iPhone so you can read them offline, and your sign-in in the iPhone's Keychain. The iPhone app has no analytics, no usage sharing and no tracking.
Because your chats are on our servers, we can technically access them. We look at them only to handle a report you send, to stop abuse of the service, or when the law requires it.
Who processes your messages
Before your first message, the app asks you to allow AI processing and names who receives your messages. Nothing is sent to an AI until you agree. To answer, Volition sends your message, the recent messages in that conversation and your "How I like help" preferences to:
| OpenRouter | Routes the request to the AI model. We tell it to use only the provider below, with no fallback to others, and only where your data isn't collected for training. See OpenRouter's privacy policy. |
|---|---|
| Anthropic | Runs Claude, the model that writes the answers. The same model also checks each message and answer with an automated safety filter, so no one else sees your content for that. See Anthropic's privacy policy. |
OpenRouter, Anthropic and Supabase handle your data only to provide this service for us, under agreements and their own published policies that protect it at least as well as this policy does. None of them may sell it, use it for advertising, or (for OpenRouter and Anthropic) train AI models on it.
If we ever change the model or who receives your messages, the app asks you to agree again before anything more is sent. You can withdraw consent any time in Settings; your history and plans stay readable, but Volition can't answer new messages until you allow it again.
Deleting your data
- A conversation, plan or your preferences. Delete them in the app. They're deleted from our servers straight away.
- Everything. Settings → Delete account deletes your account and, with it, every conversation, plan, preference, consent and report. The content-free usage records above stay, with no link to you.
Copies in our database provider's routine backups are removed as those backups expire. You can also ask us to delete your data by emailing info@volition.im.
#Usage sharing (Mac)
Usage sharing is on by default, including on an install that has never made a choice. You can turn sharing off any time in Settings → Privacy; turning it off stops sending immediately. If you have already turned it off, it stays off.
While sharing is on, the app sends content-free daily counts under a random ID made on your Mac, with no link to your Volition account: which days you used Volition, how many conversations started and how hand-offs between agents went, how many agents you have, and which kinds from our catalog, the app's version, whether it came from the stable or beta release, and the version of its local agent service (the gateway), how often it crashed or was healthy, and which of five setup steps you finished. For an install that never made a choice, previously completed setup steps can be included. Steps finished after an explicit choice to turn sharing off are never sent later, even if you turn it back on. Usage sharing never sends your conversations, prompts, files, what your agents made, your contacts, agents' names or account details.
Counts wait on your Mac for up to seven days, then are kept by us, on Supabase, for 400 days. To limit abuse, the service briefly keeps a scrambled form of your IP address that changes every hour. Turning sharing off stops it at once.
Turning sharing off also deletes the counts already shared under that ID, as soon as your Mac is online. If anything is left, email info@volition.im.
#Feedback
Feedback you send from volition.im/feedback (your message, your name and email if you give them, any included app and macOS versions, which agent runs your conversations, an install ID, and any files) is kept by us, on Supabase, for 90 days, then deleted. The install ID is removed after 30 days. A copy goes to our team by email through Resend. These copies include your message, any name and email you gave, the included app details, and links to any files you attached.
Help > Send feedback opens the form in a window of the app. It fills in the app's version, your macOS version and which agent runs your conversations. If you're signed in to a Volition account, it also fills in your name and email, which you can change or remove. None of these details is put in the page address or sent when the form opens. Your answers, the filled-in details and your files stay on your Mac until you press Send.
#This website
This site uses no cookies or session replay. When enabled, Plausible receives content-free page counts and launch events: download clicks, signup attempts and completed signups, and scroll milestones (25%, 50%, 75% and 100%). Events include only the page path and milestone, never your email, page query, referral address or conversation content. We respect Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control.
Our server passes your IP address and browser user agent to Plausible to filter bots and compute daily visitor counts; we do not store them with events. Plausible processes them transiently and does not retain raw IP addresses or identify you across days. See Plausible’s data policy.
Our hosting provider, Vercel, keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and pages requested, to run and secure the site. The download page reads which kind of Mac your browser reports, so it can offer the right download.
To limit abuse of signup and launch counts, we keep a daily scrambled form of your IP address for two days. It stays separate from your email and is not sent to analytics.
When enabled, signup uses Cloudflare Turnstile to prevent abuse. Cloudflare processes your IP address and browser signals for this security check under its privacy policy. We do not attach the check to analytics or treat it as confirmation that you own an email address.
#Email list
If you join the list, we store your email and signup date in our private Supabase database to send occasional Volition updates. Duplicate submissions keep one entry. Addresses are unverified; we require email confirmation before any outreach. We do not add your email to analytics. To leave the list or have your entry deleted, email info@volition.im.
#What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your personal information, or use it for ads. The services listed above receive the information described there.
- We don't show ads or build profiles.
- We don't train AI models on your data.
- We don't link usage counts to your Volition account, or collect them after you turn sharing off.
- We have no remote access to your Mac, its conversations or your agents.
- We don't use what you write in Volition for iPhone for anything but answering you, keeping your history and handling reports.
#Your choices
- Usage sharing. On by default. Turn it off in Settings → Privacy; an existing off choice stays off.
- Your account. Optional on a Mac. Delete it in Settings on either app.
- Your iPhone chats. Delete any conversation, plan or your preferences in the app, and withdraw AI processing consent in Settings.
- Your AI providers and services. What they hold is managed in your account with each of them.
- What we hold. To see or delete feedback or anything else we have, email us.
#Children
Volition for iPhone is only for people 18 or older, and asks you to confirm that before your first message. Volition for Mac isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children; if you think a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
#Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If Volition for iPhone's recipients change, the app asks for your consent again. The usage default covers only the content-free daily counts described here, under a random ID with no account link, never your conversations, files or agent outputs. You can turn sharing off in Settings → Privacy, and an existing off choice stays off.
